What Is Riftbound? The League of Legends TCG Explained, and Which Box to Buy (UAE)

Gold PlayVault vault door with the headline What Is Riftbound? — League of Legends TCG beginner and buying guide, UAE

Quick answer: what is Riftbound?

Riftbound is the official League of Legends trading card game from Riot Games, published in English with UVS Games. Instead of attacking your opponent’s life total, you send your champion and units to contested battlefields. Take a battlefield and you score a point; keep holding it and you score again. In a normal one-on-one game, the first player to 8 points wins.

You do not need to know League of Legends to play. Recognising Jinx, Ahri or Yasuo helps with the theme, but the rules stand on their own. The real buying question is whether you want to learn to play, open packs or collect a specific set:

Your goal Our recommendation Why
Learn the game A preconstructed deck (Showdown Deck or Champion Deck) Ready to play, and far cheaper than a booster box
Open a full box Unleashed Booster Box, around Dhs. 889 Newer mechanics and the lowest price per pack of the boxes we have in stock
Collect the first set Origins Booster Box, around Dhs. 1,269 Set 1, with the champions that launched the game

How Riftbound plays, in two minutes

Picture two players fighting over two locations in the middle of the table. You build a deck around a Champion Legend, use runes to pay for cards, and send units to capture or defend those battlefields. Fights are decided by your units’ Might and your card effects.

Part of your deck What it does
Champion Legend Your deck’s identity. It sets your two domains (colours) and which champion you build around. It sits beside the board, outside your deck.
Chosen Champion A champion unit matching your Legend. It counts as one of your main-deck cards but starts the game face up in your Champion Zone, ready to play.
Main deck At least 40 cards, including your Chosen Champion. Up to three copies of any card.
Rune deck 12 runes, kept separate. Runes are your resource: you channel two each turn.
Battlefields You bring three different battlefields. In a one-on-one game, each player contributes one at random, so two battlefields are in play.

A turn runs through six phases: Awaken, Beginning, Channel, Draw, Action and End of Turn. In practice you channel your runes, draw, then spend runes to play units, gear and spells and move units to battlefields.

Scoring is the heart of the game. You score a point when you conquer a battlefield, and another at the start of your turn for each battlefield you still hold. If an opponent is already there, your units fight, and whoever has units left standing takes control. There is a special condition for scoring the winning point itself, so check Riot’s official Rules Hub before your first event; the quick-start guide is the best place to learn.

There are six domains, and every Legend uses two: Fury (red), Calm (green), Mind (blue), Body (orange), Chaos (purple) and Order (yellow). Riftbound supports games of two to four players and team play (to 11 points), but a one-on-one game is the best way to learn.

Every Riftbound set, from Origins to Radiance

Four English sets are out and the fifth releases this week. Each set brings new mechanics, so the set you open changes the cards and strategies you get.

Set English release What matters to buyers
Origins (Set 1) 31 October 2025 The launch set, with champions such as Jinx, Ahri, Yasuo, Miss Fortune, Teemo and Kai’Sa
Spiritforged (Set 2) 13 February 2026 Ezreal, Fiora, Irelia, Lucian and Rumble; the first Champion Decks
Unleashed (Set 3) 8 May 2026 New play patterns with XP, Hunt, Ambush and Token Battlefields; Vi, Rengar, LeBlanc, Pyke and more
Vendetta (Set 4) 31 July 2026 A rivalries theme (Jinx vs Vi, Shen vs Zed) and the first two-player Showdown Decks
Radiance (Set 5) 23 October 2026 Ekko, Seraphine and Evelynn, new mechanics such as Deploy and Show Off, and a Seraphine vs Evelynn Showdown Deck

What is new in Radiance

According to Riot’s Radiance overview, the set releases on 23 October 2026 in English, French and Chinese, after Pre-Rift events from 16 to 22 October. It adds:

  • Deploy: gear played to a battlefield gives a benefit while it stays there, and is destroyed if an opponent takes that battlefield.
  • Show Off: reveal a qualifying card from your hand or board to unlock an extra effect.
  • Disarm: lowers an enemy unit’s Might as you attack.
  • Equipment Units: through Orianna’s Legend, Equipment can become units.
  • Bomb tokens that get more damaging the more you play.

Radiance also carries the game’s second Ultimate Rare, which Riot says appears in about 0.025% of packs — no pack, box or case is guaranteed one.

What comes after Radiance

Riot’s published roadmap is busy, which matters if you are deciding how much to spend now:

  • Gift of the Rift Bundle (4 December 2026): 16 booster packs, runes, an alt-art Akali promo, sleeves and a storage box.
  • Legacy (Set 6, 29 January 2027), with four Champion Decks for Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen.
  • Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition (19 February 2027): a boxed starter for any skill level with four Champion decks, battlefields, playmats and score trackers.
  • The Reckoning (Set 7, 30 April 2027), then two more sets later in 2027.

Our TCG release calendar tracks street dates for everything we stock.

What is in a Riftbound booster box?

Every English booster box we carry holds 24 sealed packs of 14 cards. Riot published the pack structure when the game launched with Origins: 7 Commons, 3 Uncommons, 2 Rare-or-better slots, 1 foil slot (usually a Common or Uncommon, sometimes upgraded) and 1 token or rune. Every Rare and Epic is foil, so every pack has foils.

For Origins, Riot also published approximate rates, which tell you what a box realistically contains:

Card type What it is Riot’s guide rate (Origins)
Epic The highest normal rarity; can take a Rare slot About 1 in 4 packs
Alternate art A champion in a different League skin, with a more intricate foil About 2 per box
Overnumbered A Champion Legend by Riot’s own artists, numbered beyond the set count About 1 per 3 boxes
Signature An Overnumbered card carrying the artist’s foil-printed signature About 1 in 10 Overnumbered cards

Later sets add their own layers: Showcase art treatments, and the Ultimate Rare, which debuted in Unleashed with Baron Nashor (found in less than one percent of packs). These are averages, not promises; a box can miss every chase card.

Which Riftbound box should you buy in the UAE?

Product Recent price Per pack Best for
Unleashed Booster Box Around Dhs. 889 About Dhs. 37 Opening packs and learning the newer mechanics
Origins Booster Box Around Dhs. 1,269 About Dhs. 53 Collecting the launch set
Vendetta Booster Display Around Dhs. 649 About Dhs. 27 Sold out when checked; watch for a restock
Unleashed Sealed Case Around Dhs. 4,999 About Dhs. 35 Groups, drafts and sealed collectors (6 boxes, 144 packs)
Origins Sealed Case Around Dhs. 7,499 About Dhs. 52 Six first-set boxes, 144 packs

Why does Origins cost more than Unleashed? Not because there is more inside: both are 24 packs of 14 cards. Origins is the launch set with the game’s original champions, and sealed boxes have become harder to find as Riftbound grew. That premium is for collecting history, not for better pull rates.

Our recommendation: to open packs, buy the set whose cards and mechanics you like best; of the boxes in stock, Unleashed is the better value. Choose Origins because you want the first set itself. And if you are buying sealed mainly to hold, read do sealed booster boxes hold value? first: Riftbound is a young game with a fast release schedule, and its sealed market has not been tested over many years. Everything we carry is in our Riftbound collection.

Want to play? Buy a deck before a box

A booster box is a fun way to build a collection, but 24 random packs will not reliably give you a working deck. Riot’s own advice is to start with a preconstructed deck and change it as you learn.

  • Two players starting together: a Showdown Deck gives you two ready-to-play decks in one box. Radiance’s is Seraphine vs Evelynn.
  • One player with a favourite champion: a Champion Deck builds around a single champion; Legacy adds four more in January.
  • Teaching a group: Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition (February 2027) is designed for exactly that, with four decks and four playmats in one box.

Once you know how runes and battlefield control work, boosters and single cards are how you improve your deck. Not sure where to start? Message us on WhatsApp with the champion or play style you like and your budget, and we will tell you what we can get.

Tips for UAE players and collectors

  • Check the card language for events. Riftbound is printed in several languages. Before you buy a deck for organised play, ask your organiser which languages they accept.
  • Sleeve your foils. Every pack has foils, and foils curl and scratch. Penny sleeves for everything and toploaders for your best pulls are covered in our accessories guide.
  • Keep sealed boxes out of the heat. A hot car or a sun-facing room damages cardboard and warps foils. Our heat protection guide explains how to store them.

Inside the UAE, delivery is free on orders over Dhs. 200 and a flat Dhs. 17 below that, typically 1–2 working days after dispatch. Regional shipping to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Jordan is a flat Dhs. 65, free over Dhs. 1,500, with destination VAT and customs payable by the recipient; see our shipping, VAT and customs guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is Riftbound?

Riftbound is the official League of Legends trading card game from Riot Games, published in English with UVS Games. Players use a champion and units to fight for control of battlefields and score points. In a one-on-one game, the first player to 8 points wins.

Do I need to play League of Legends to enjoy Riftbound?

No. The champions and art come from League of Legends, but the card game has its own rules and you can learn it without ever playing the video game.

How do you win a game of Riftbound?

Reach 8 points in a one-on-one game (11 in team play). You score by conquering battlefields and by holding them at the start of your turn. There is a special condition for scoring the winning point, so check the official rules for tournament play.

How many cards are in a Riftbound deck?

A main deck of at least 40 cards, including your Chosen Champion, plus a separate 12-card rune deck, your Champion Legend and three battlefields. You can include up to three copies of any card.

How many packs are in a Riftbound booster box?

The English booster boxes contain 24 packs of 14 cards each, and every pack contains foils.

Which Riftbound box should a beginner buy?

To learn the game, start with a preconstructed Showdown Deck or Champion Deck rather than a booster box. To open packs, Unleashed is the best value of the booster boxes PlayVault has in stock.

When does Riftbound Radiance release?

Riot lists 23 October 2026 for the English, French and Chinese release, with Pre-Rift events from 16 to 22 October 2026.

Are Signature cards guaranteed in a box?

No. Riot’s guide rate for Origins was about one Overnumbered card per three boxes, and about one in ten of those is a Signature. Signature cards carry the artist’s signature as a foil print.

Can I buy Riftbound in the UAE?

Yes. PlayVault stocks English Riftbound booster boxes and sealed cases, with delivery across the UAE and to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Jordan.
