How to identify your card. Look at the bottom of the card for four clues: the set symbol (the little icon next to the card number), the card number like 45/102 — the second number is the set's total, listed here under Cards — the © year, and on cards from 2011 onward a 2–4 letter set code (e.g. SSP, PRE). Find the matching row below and you've got your set.

Every English Pokémon Trading Card Game set is marked by a small set symbol printed next to the card number in the bottom corner of each card. How do I know which Pokémon set a card is from?
Look at the bottom of the card. Next to the card number is a small set symbol; the number itself (e.g. 45/102) ends in the set’s total card count; and the © year is printed along the bottom edge. Match those three clues to a row in the tables above to identify the exact English set.
What does the number like 45/102 on a Pokémon card mean?
The first number is the card’s position in the set; the second is the set’s total number of cards. A card numbered above the total (e.g. 103/102) is a secret rare. Every set’s printed total is in the Cards column above.
Where is the set symbol on a Pokémon card?
On most English cards it sits in the bottom-right corner, next to the card number. Base Set (1999) is the only set with no symbol — every set from Jungle (1999) onward has one. From 2011, a 2–4 letter set code is printed near the number too.
How can I tell what year my Pokémon card is from?
The copyright year is in tiny text along the bottom of the card (e.g. “©2016 Pokémon”). Use it with the symbol to separate reprints and similarly named sets. Each set’s release year is in the Year column.
Do Japanese Pokémon cards use the same set symbols?
No. Japanese sets have their own symbols, codes and card counts and don’t map one-to-one to English sets, so this English guide won’t match a Japanese card. We stock Japanese sealed product separately.
What is the set code or regulation mark on a Pokémon card?
The set code is the 2–4 letter abbreviation (e.g. SSP, PRE, SVI) printed near the card number on cards from 2011 onward — the Code column above. The regulation mark (a single letter such as F, G or H) marks tournament legality and is separate from the set code.
