A note on tournament legality

Universes Beyond legality can be confusing, so it is worth understanding before buying for tournament play.

The main set from each recent tentpole release — such as FIN for Final Fantasy, SPM for Spider-Man, TLA for Avatar and TMT for TMNT — is legal in all Magic formats, including Standard, Pioneer, Modern and Commander.

Supplemental cards from the same releases can have different legality. Commander deck cards, source-material cards and other special set-code cards are typically legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage, or in formats where a same-name card is already legal.

For Commander — by far the most popular Magic format in the UAE and GCC — every Universes Beyond card is legal regardless of set code. This is the main reason most local buyers do not need to worry about the supplemental-set distinction.
