Pitch Black is the fifth main expansion of the Mega Evolution era, the English counterpart of the Japanese Abyss Eye set, and draws its cast and story from the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. A full booster box is the primary way to open the set at the best per-pack value.

This is the dark half of the Mega Evolution era: six Mega Evolution Pokemon ex anchor the set — Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Delphox ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Slowbro ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex — with Mega Darkrai ex as the headline chase in its rarest treatments. As across the era, Mega Pokemon ex give up three Prize cards when knocked out, keeping the high-risk, high-reward dynamic central to both collecting and competitive play.
