Magic: The Gathering — Outlaws of Thunder Junction (set code: OTJ) is a Standard-legal Magic: The Gathering expansion released on April 19, 2024 — the 100th Magic expansion in the game's history. It is the first Magic set built entirely around the Wild West genre and the first to introduce Thunder Junction as a plane — a frontier world where every major villain in the Magic Multiverse has converged to pull off the greatest heist ever conceived. Oko, the cunning shapeshifter and recurring Magic antagonist, assembles a crew of multiverse-spanning outlaws for a brazen vault robbery in the sky.

The set's central theme is villainy. Rather than following heroes, Outlaws of Thunder Junction follows the criminals — and the three new mechanics reflect that identity directly. Plot lets you pay mana to exile cards face-down from your hand, then cast them for free on a future turn — representing the crew planning their heist before springing it. Committing a Crime rewards you for targeting your opponent's permanents, cards in hand, cards in exile, or the opponent themselves — spellcasting as a criminal act with tangible mechanical benefit. Mount and Saddle introduce rideable creature cards where powerful mounts can be saddled by tapping creatures with enough combined power, bringing cavalry combat to Magic for the first time.

Every single Play Booster in this box contains at least one Breaking News card — a 65-card bonus sheet of reprints featuring powerful Magic staples reframed in a front-page newspaper style reporting the spellcasting as a crime. The 65 Breaking News cards span 20 uncommons, 30 rares, and 15 mythic rares, all of which are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. One in five Play Boosters also contains a card from The Big Score — 30 mythic rare cards representing the vault's contents, all Standard-legal. The full main set contains 276 cards including 5 full-art Western landscape basic lands with negative-space art unique to this set. Wanted Poster showcase cards depicting the set's most notorious villains are among the most distinctive collector treatments in 2024 Magic.

Note: this box contains 36 packs rather than the standard 30 — OTJ was one of the final sets released in the larger 36-pack Play Booster format before Wizards standardised at 30 packs per box from Duskmourn onwards.

Box contents: 36 Play Booster packs per box. Each pack contains 14 Magic: The Gathering cards plus 1 Token or Art card. 1 to 5 Rare or higher cards per pack. 1 Breaking News card guaranteed per pack. 1 Traditional Foil card guaranteed per pack. Traditional Foil Land in 20% of packs. Full-Art Western Landscape Land in 16% of packs. List card in 20% of packs. Foil Borderless Mythic Planeswalker in under 1% of packs. Language: English. Publisher: Wizards of the Coast. Condition: Factory sealed.

Ideal for Magic players who enjoy villain-themed storytelling and Wild West aesthetics, competitive players wanting the Plot, Crime, and Mount mechanics in Standard and Commander, collectors chasing the Wanted Poster showcase cards and Breaking News reprints, and anyone who wants one of the most mechanically creative Standard sets of 2024. Cards are randomised and specific pulls are not guaranteed. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
