Pokemon TCG: Sun and Moon — Tag Bolt (set code: SM9) was released in Japan on December 7, 2018 as the ninth main expansion of the Sun and Moon era. Tag Bolt is the Japanese source set for the English Team Up expansion and the historic debut of the TAG TEAM GX mechanic — one of the most significant mechanical shifts in the history of the Pokemon TCG. This is an out-of-print set from 2018 that has not been reprinted. Factory sealed booster boxes are increasingly rare on the secondary market, with prices reflecting sustained collector demand nearly seven years after original release.

Tag Bolt introduced TAG TEAM GX cards — a new format where two Pokemon share a single card with combined HP totals, devastating attacks, and powerful GX moves with optional additional effects triggered by attaching extra Energy. When knocked out, a TAG TEAM GX gives the opponent three Prize cards rather than the standard two, creating a high-stakes risk-reward dynamic that defined competitive play for the entire following year. Tag Bolt was the first set to feature this mechanic and remains one of the most celebrated Sun and Moon era releases as a result.

The set is themed around the Kanto region and the Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu and Lets Go Eevee video games, and contains 95 core cards plus secret rares for 118 total cards. The headline TAG TEAM GX pairings include Pikachu and Zekrom GX, Celebi and Venusaur GX, Gengar and Mimikyu GX, Eevee and Snorlax GX, Magikarp and Wailord GX, and Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres GX — the legendary birds appearing together on a single card. The crown jewel of the set is the Latias and Latios GX Special Art card (105/095) — depicting the two Legendaries forming a heart shape in a sunset — widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and sought-after cards in the entire Sun and Moon era. It consistently ranks among the most graded and valuable SM9 cards on secondary markets.

Box contents: 30 booster packs per box. 5 cards per pack. 150 total cards per box. Language: Japanese. All card text is in Japanese. Cards are produced in Japan to Japanese print quality standards. Condition: Factory sealed. Note: this is an out-of-print 2018 set — sealed stock is limited and not expected to be replenished.

Ideal for Sun and Moon era collectors, TAG TEAM GX hunters, Latias and Latios collectors, and sealed product investors looking for an appreciated vintage Japanese box. Cards are randomised and specific pulls are not guaranteed. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
