Lorwyn Eclipsed (ECL) Play Booster Box | 30 Play Boosters

Magic: The Gathering — Lorwyn Eclipsed (set code: ECL) is a Standard-legal Magic: The Gathering expansion released on January 23, 2026, marking the long-awaited return to one of the most beloved planes in Magic history — the fairytale world of Lorwyn and its dark mirror, Shadowmoor. This is the first return to the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor plane since the original block in 2007-2008, making it one of the most anticipated non-crossover Magic releases in years among veteran players.

The central story event is the Great Eclipse — a rare celestial collision where the sun god Eirdu's eternal day and the twilight god Isilu's eternal night have crashed together through the Omenpaths, merging the idyllic pastoral world of Lorwyn with the twisted, moonlit nightmare of Shadowmoor into a single conflicted plane. Lorwyn's proud Elves, steadfast Kithkin, mischievous Boggarts, graceful Merrow, and powerful Elementals now exist alongside their dark corrupted Shadowmoor counterparts — and the plane's soul hangs in the balance.

For returning Magic players: the set brings back fan-favourite mechanics including Evoke — one of the strongest and most nostalgic mechanics in Magic's history, most recently seen in Modern Horizons 2 where Evoke Elementals defined the format — alongside a powerful focus on kindred (tribal) synergies for Elves, Merfolk, Goblins, Kithkin, and Faeries. The set introduces a cycle of reversible dual-faced Shock Lands with Lorwyn art on one side and Shadowmoor art on the other — a significant addition for competitive players across Standard, Pioneer, and Modern. Transforming double-faced cards that flip between their light and dark selves are a central design theme throughout the set. The headliner collector card is a serialized borderless showcase version of Bitterbloom Bearer illustrated by Rebecca Guay — the beloved artist most associated with original Lorwyn's visual identity — with only 500 copies in existence, found exclusively in Collector Boosters. Lorwyn Eclipsed is legal in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander.

For players new to Magic who enjoy fantasy worldbuilding: Lorwyn Eclipsed is one of the most visually and thematically rich sets Wizards of the Coast has produced in recent years. The plane's duality — pastoral daylight versus corrupted moonlit darkness — creates two distinct visual identities within a single set, and the creature types are among the most characterful and beloved in Magic's history.

Planning for the 2027 rotation? Lorwyn Eclipsed is a 2026 set, so it stays in Standard when Nauctis: The Sunken Realm releases on 5 February 2027 and the oldest sets rotate out. This box was printed before the 2027 booster changes, so it keeps its original booster configuration and contains no god packs. Our MTG Standard rotation 2027 and god packs guide covers both changes.
